(SUNDAY MORNING) Default Win for Sahaidak-Lott, Fourth Win for Jones-Laing: Kadriana Shaidak & Colton Lott (Winnipeg Beach) have a 1-0 win on the scoreboard this morning at the Home Hardware Mixed Doubles in Calgary, but not the way any competitor wants a championship victory. A default was posted when Brier champion Darren Moulding was unable to play due to back spasms that happened during the night.

In part, a Curling Canada statement says: “It’s very disappointing, but the back pain was just too severe to be able to play,” said Moulding. “I feel bad for Joanne because we have been playing very well early in the championship. But my focus right now is on getting treatment for my back and I hope to return to the ice as soon as possible.”

Curling Canada’s event Chief Medical Officer has checked Moulding for all other symptoms, and he passed a wellness and temperature check, so there are no concerns related to COVID-19.

Curling Canada also is following all safety protocols related to physiotherapy treatment for Moulding.  “I’m truly thankful for all of the steps that have been taken by Curling Canada to make sure I’m taken care of,” said Moulding. “I’m hopeful that Joanne and I can be back in action later in this event.”

Sahaidak/Lott move into a tie for first place in POOL A with Courtney/Moulding and with Brittany Tran & Aaron Sluchinski, who also won on Sunday morning.

In POOL B, Jennifer Jones & Brent Laing moved alone into first place with a 4-0 record, defeating Laurie St. Georges & Feliz Asselin 7-3. The Quebec pair's receord is nows 3-1 along with Kerri Einarson & Brad Gushue.
