KARWACKI - SAMAGALSKI Win Two on Saturday

(SATURDAY LATE) Manitoba Champions Krysten Karwacki & Derek Samagalski returned to the ice for their second game Saturday at the Home Hardware Mixed Doubles Championship in Calgary and posted their second win of the day to improve their record to 2-1. In a slow start, they gave up a four on the first end but from there they coasted to a 15-5 victory over Liz & Langdon King, the Northwest Territories Champions.  The win allows the Manitobans to keep pace in POOL D which is led by Val Sweeting and Marc Kennedy with a 3--0 record.

In POOL C, Selena Njegovan & Reid Carruthers posted their second win in four starts, a 7-2 win over BC Champions Stephanie Jackson-Baier/Corey Chester. Nancy Martin & Tyrel Griffith and Laura Walker & Kirk Muyres lead POOL with perfect 3-0 records.

(SATURDAY AFTERNOON) Einarson - Gushue  Improve to 3-1: Canadian Scotties Champion Kerri Einarson and her partner Brad Gushue improved their Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship record to 3-1 Saturday with a 7-5 win over Ontario Champions Lauren Wasylkiw/Shane Konings. At 3-1, Einarson & Gushue are tied in the win column but a loss behind the POOL B leaders Jennifer Jones & Brent Laing and Laurie St. Georges & Felix Asselin. Both Einarson/Gushue and Jones/Laing have yet to play St. Georges/Asselin.

(SATURDAY EARLY AFTERNOON) TOUGH SATURDAY CONTINUES FOR MANITOBANS: All four sheets of ice in the Calgary bubble featured Manitoba teams on the early afternoon draw. Three of the teams were defeated with only Manitoba champions Krysten Karwacki & Derek Samagalski posting a victory. Karwacki/Samagalski were 6-5 winners over Brier champ Brendan Bottcher & Bobbie Sauder, who are still winless in three starts. Selena Njegovan & Reid Carruthers scored a four on the third end but Laura Walker & Kirk Muyres used their 'power play' opportunity immediatley and scored the four right back. They went on beat the Manitobans 9-7.

In POOL D, Shannon Birchard & Caitlin Schneider lost 7-6 to Bichard's Scotties champiom teammate Val Sweeting & Marc Kennedy. Birchard/Schneider are now 2-1 behind Sweeting/Kennedy at 3-0. Breanne Meilleur & Mark Nicholls lost 9-6 to Nancy Martin & Tyrel Griffith who are also still unbeaten at 3-0 and lead POOL C at 3-0.

(SATURDAY MORNING) ROUGH SATURDAY START FOR MANITOBANS: The opening draw Saturday featured a pair of Manitoba-connected teams but both suffered losses as Day Three of the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship got underway in Calgary.  Kadriana Sahaidak & Colton Lott lost for the first time, a 7-3 loss to Jocelyn Peterman & Brett Gallant. Both teams now have 2-1 records a win behind Joanne Courtney & Brier champ Darren Moulding in POOL A. BC's Hawes/Tardi duo stole one coming home to defeat Kaitlyn & Connor Lawes 8-7. Lisa Weagle & John Epping lead POOL E with a 2-0 record.
