JONES/LAING 3-0 AFTER TWO WINS FRIDAY

Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing scored their second five-ender of the day on the late draw Friday enroute to their second victory of the day at the Home HArdware Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship in Calgary. At 3-0, they lead the way in POOL B. Kerri Einarson & Brad Gushue won 8-2 over Tuck & Tuck to improve to 2-1.

In POOL C, Breanne Meilleur & Mark Nicholls gave up a 4-0 lead after two ends and fought back for a 6-5 win over  BC Champions Stephanie Jackson-Baier & Corey Chester. The Meilleur team is now 1-1.

(FRIDAY LATE AFTERNOON) SAHAIDAK/LOTT IMPROVE TO 2-0: Kadriana Sahaidak & Colton Lott, representing Winnipeg Beach CC, have improved their POOL A record to 2-0 at the Home Hardware Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship. Down 4-2 after four ends, the young Manitobans controlled the second half of the game, scoring 6 points over the next three end in posting an 8-5 win. On the same draw in POOL E, Kaitlyn Lawes (with Connor Lawes) took on her 2018 Olympic Gold Medal partner John Morris (with Danielle Schmiemann). The Lawes team stole a single coming home to force an extra end but the Morris team won without having to throw their final stone.

(FRIDAY AFTERNOON) JONES/LAING Over EINARSON/GUSHUE: Manitoba's most decorated women skips of recent years faced off Friday in the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship in Calgary. Jennifer Jones (with Brent Laing) had a rub and roll opportunity to score a perfect six-ender but scored only a five on the fourth end enroute to a 10-4 victory over Kerri Einarson (with Brad Gushue). The win gives Jones & Laing the early lead in POOL B with a record of 2-0. On the same early afternoon draw in POOL C, Selena Njegovan & Reid Carruthers dropped to 1-1 with a loss, 7-5 to Nancy Martin & Tyrel Griffith. On the early draw Friday, in POOL D Shannon Birchard (with Caitlin Schneider) improved to 2-0 with a five-ender of their own in an 8-2 win over new Brier champ Brendan Bottcher (with Bobbie Sauder).
