Four Advance From Brier Pool B

Thursday Mar 11 2021

The top four seeds in Pool B have advanced to the second stage of Brier championship play in Calgary. Coming in they were seeded #1-Ontario (Epping), #2-Team Canada (Gushue), #3-Wild Card 2/Koe, and #4 Saskatchewan (Dunstone) within the pool. Gushue (9-2 over Nunavut), Epping (8-4 over PEI), and Dunstone (7-5 over Nova Scotia) all won their final round robin games Thursday afternoon to improve their records to 6-2. Koe was a 10-5 winner over Quebec to finish first in the pool with a 7-1 record.

A tiebreaker game is likely in Pool A. Brad Jacobs' Northern Ontario team has finished round robin play at 5-3 while James Grattan and his New Brunswick team are 4-3 with a game to play against Northwest Territories who have won only one game in seven starts. Manitoba (Gunnlaugson) and Alberta (Bottcher) are both 5-2 and must win to avoid possible tiebreaker action. Alberta plays BC's Steve Laycock who would like to finish positive with a two win day after a victory earlier against Manitoba. Gunnlaugson plays Wild Card 3 (Hoaward-Middaugh) whoce 6-1 record has already assured them they will advance.
