Neufeld Foursome Wins Silver Medal at Canadian Seniors

LaSalle's Randy Neufeld team, with women's coach Dale Brooks subbing for Dean Moxham who was out following an appendix operation, won their semi-final but lost the gold medal game at the Canadian Senior Men's Championship. In the final, Ontario's Bryan Cochrane beat Manitoba 6-3, after the Neufeld team beat Nova Scotia's Alan O'Leary 11-5 in the semi-final.

Colleen Jones (NS) won the Senior Women's championship with a 5-2 win over Sherry Anderson-SK. Manitoba's 5-4 finished 5-4 in the championship.

Neufeld 8-2, Into Playoff Round at Canadian Seniors - After going 2-2 to open the Canadian Senior Championship, Manitoba's Randy Neufeld team has won six in a row to advance to the championship playoff round. Wednesday's win, 9-4 over Ed Lukowich-Alberta, has been followed by four straight victories in the championship round. Ontario and Nova Scotia play on the late afternoon Friday draw. Ontario's record is 8-1 while Nova Scotia is at 7-2. At 8-2 Manitoba is assured of being in the final four as is BC with a record of 7-3. 

The playoff round is a straight knockout, 1 vs 4 & 2 vs 3, Saturday morning. with the final and bronze medal games in the early afternoon.

In the women's  event, Sherry Anderson's Saskatchewan team,  Cathy King-Alberta in one pool. Catherine Cunningham - Newfoundland/Labrador, Colleen Jones-Nova Scotia and Jo-Anne Rizzo-Ontario all have 7-2 records with a game to play. Manitoba's Sandra Cowling has won a pair and has a 4-4 record with one game to play.

Neufeld 4-2, Will Advance at Canadian Seniors - Randy Neufeld's LaSalle team, posted an important 9-4 victory Wednesday afternoon over Alberta's Ed Lukowich to improve their record to 4-2 at the Everest Senior Men's Canadian Championship in Nova Scotia. The win ties Manitoba's record with Alberta, a pair of wins behind 6-0 Ontario in their first round pool. The Neufeld foursome advances into the championship round. The top four teams in each of the two pools move on to the championship round where their records move forward with them and they play four more games against the teams from the other pool.

In that second pool, Nova Scotia also leads the way at 6-0. Former Manitoban Bob Ursel's BC team is, like Neufeld at 4-2.

In the women's competition, Manitoba's Sandra Cowling team has a 2-4 record after six games and will miss the championship round. Sherry Anderson's Saskatchewan team has a 6-0 record, a win ahead of former Scotties champion Cathy King-Alberta in one pool. Catherine Cunningham - Newfoundland/Labrador, Colleen Jones-Nova Scotia and Jo-Anne Rizzo-Ontario all have 5-1 records to lead the other pool.
