The championship game of the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto featured Kristy McDonald-Granite against Kerri Einarson-East St. Paul. The first end of the final game was played clean with McDonald making the blank to keep the hammer heading into the second end. In the second end, a missed last rock double attempt by Kerri Einarson left Kristy McDonald with a nose hit to score 2. After two ends McDonald lead 2-0. With an early roll out, Team Einarson was forced to blank the third end. In the 4th end a great double by Kerri Einarson and a jammed double attempt by Kristy McDonald, set up a nose hit for a score of two to tie the game 2-2. In the 5th end, a good first rock by Kristy McDonald set up a nose hit for two to take the lead.

After 5 ends of play McDonald lead 4-2. In the 6th end both teams kept it open and Kerri Einarson hit and rolled out for the blank. In the 7th end a great runback by Kerri Einarson left Kristy McDonald a tricky pick. McDonald made the pick and Kerri Einarson threw her last rock away taking the hammer to the 8th end. In the 8th end Einarson capitalized on a flashed peel by Kate Cameron and set up a score of two. After 8 ends Einarson and McDonald were tied at 4. The 9th end was perfectly played by Team Einarson, on McDonalds' last stone she had to draw to the side of the button for her single point. Her rock over curled and Team Einarson stole 3. After 9 ends Einarson led 7-4. In the 10th end the Einarson team ran McDonald out of rocks. Final score 7-5 for Team Einarson.

END ROUND ROBIN SUMMARY: Four Teams 6-1 in Beausejour Scotties;  Playoffs Picture in Focus - In the end the playoff picture is clean at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto in Beausejour. Kristy McDonald-Granite lost her final match to Joelle Brown but it didn't matter as she already had first place in the group locked up before the game started and Shannon Birchard-St Vital locked up second place in the pool with a win over MIchelle Montford-Assiniboine Memorial. McDonald and Brichard both finished with 6-1 records. At 5-2, Brown missed a tiebreaker chance when Birchardbeat Montford.

And it was the same picture in the other pool. Both Kerri Einarson-East St. Paul and Cathy Overton-Clapham - Fort Rouge won their final games to finish 6-1. Dauphin's Lisa Menard won her final game with a steal on the extra end against Janet Harvey but like Brown finished 5-2 and out of the playoff picture.

In the Page 1-1 Playoff game at 6pm Saturday, Einarson meets McDonald while Birchard plays Overton-Clapham in the Page 2-2 game.

DRAW 14: The final round robin draw of the Asham Black Group at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour had Team Joelle Brown fighting for a playoff chance against previously unbeaten Kristy McDonald. Team Brown needed a win against McDonald and a loss by Birchard to get her team into a tie breaker for the second playoff position. Team Brown came out firing, grabbing two deuces in the first half of the game to lead 4-2 heading into 5th end break. In the 6th end, a missed draw to the four foot on her last rock against two Brown counters increased the lead to 6-2. However McDonald battled back and scored three in the 8th end to close the gap to 6-5 in favour of the Brown team. In the 7th end Joelle Brown put the game away with a hack weight hit for 3 and win the game 9-5. The other game on the ice with playoff implications was between Team Birchard and Team Montford. A win by Montford would force a tie breaker for the second playoff spot, while a win by Birchard would secure her team second place in the group. On her last shot Shannon Birchard drew to a piece of the four foot for the victory. Team Ursel and Team Mackay finished off their round robins with wins over Zacharias and Link. The final standings in the Asham Black Group has Team McDonald finishing in first place and Shannon Birchard finishing in second place.

Menard and Harvey traded opportunities in the first half of the game, each scoring a deuce with the hammer. After 5 ends of play the score was tied 3-3. Menard jumped ahead in the 7th end when Harvey's double attempt undercurled, leaving an open house for Menard to draw for 2. Trailing by 1 in the 8th end Janet Harvey made two in turn draws to score a Skips deuce and take the lead 6-5. Team Menard blanked the 9th end opting to take hammer into the last end down 1. On her last stone, facing two Harvey counters Menard drew full 4 foot to force an extra end. On Janet Harvey's last stone in the extra she attempted a double take out. DAY 3 Summary: One Round of Play to Go in Beausejour Scotties; Only McDonald Assured of Playoffs - CurlManitoba is hosting the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto January 20-24 at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour, MB. The top 16 Women's teams in Manitoba will compete for an opportunity to represent Manitoba at the 2016 Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts Grande Prairie, AB February 20-28, 2016.

Playoff Scenarios After Three Days of Round Robin Play:

In the Extreme Force Red Group, Team Kerri Einarson and Team Cathy Overton-Clapham have their playoff fates in there own hands. A win by each team would secure them a playoff spot. If one of the two teams loses and Team Lisa Menard defeats Team Janet Harvey there will be a tie breaker for the second place position. If both Einarson and Overton-Clapham lose and Menard wins, the tie breaker would revert to win-lose. Since Team Einarson beat both Overton-Clapham and Menard in round robin, Team Overton-Clapham would play Menard in a tie breaker.

In the Asham Black Group, Team Kristy McDonald has secured first place. If Shannon Birchard wins tomorrow against Michelle Montford she will secure second place. If Montford defeats Birchard there will be a tie and one tie breaker for second place. If Joelle Brown defeats McDonald and Montford defeats Birchard there will be two tie breaker games tomorrow to decide second place.

The Zacharias team scored back to back 3 enders in the 3rd and 4th end and lead 7-3 after the 5th end. In the 6th end Team Link went hard to steal her way back into the game, but with her last rock Zacharias made a hack weight hit to score another 3. The final score was 10-3 as Team Zacharias gets there first win. In the other draws Team Birchard got 4 in the fourth and went on to defeat Joelle Brown 8-3. DAY 2 SUMMARY: Four Teams Perfect at 4-0 After Day Two of Scotties - Four teams have perfect 4-0 records after two days of play in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto in Beausejour. In the three rounds of play beginning Friday morning, the top-ranked teams in each pool begin to play each other and the playoff picture will develop through Friday and Saturday’s final draws.

In the Extreme Force Red Pool, Thursday’s results suggest the real possibility that a multiple tie for second place could occur. Cathy Overton-Clapham’s Fort Rouge team leads the way with four wins and no losses after winning a pair Thursday. Darcy Robertson-Rossmere dropped out of a first place tie on the late draw; losing 7-5 to Lisa Menard-Dauphin. The win gave Menard a split on the day.

Barb Spencer-Assiniboine Memorial also split her two Thursday games, winning early but losing 6-5 on  the late draw to previously winless Jennifer Rolles-Burntwood (Thompson) when the northern team stole a point on an extra end. Cheryl Reed-Brandon and former champion Janet Harvey-Granite lost two Thursday. Reed’s record is 1-3 while Harvey is still winless.

In the group, Overton-Clapham holds first place while Robertson and Einarson are in second place with 3-1 records and Spencer and Menard are also in the playoff chase at 2-2.

Overton-Clapham, Robertson, Einarson and Spencer all play each other in the next three rounds and results of those games will have the greatest effect on the playoff picture in the group. The Menard team can possibly force themselves into the playoff scenarios by winning their final three against the three teams with records below them in the standings.

Meanwhile in the Asham Black Pool, Kristy McDonald-Granite, Michelle Montford-Assiniboine Memorial and Shannon Birchard-St. Vital all won a pair of games Thursday to stay perfect at 4-0. Joelle Brown-Assiniboine Memorial dropped out of the first place tie in her second game of the day Thursday when she lost 7-5 to Christine MacKay-Fort Rouge.

McDonald, Birchard, Montford and Brown all play each other over the next three rounds. Three wins assures any of them a playoff spot – just one loss means they will probably fall into a tiebreaker game for second place.
