Hartung's Saskatchewan Team Wins Swan River Westwood Inn Classic

Kody Hartung and his Langenburg, Saskatchewan team (Jeff Hartung, Tyler Hartung, Clare DeCock) posted an 8-2 victory over Alex Forrest and his East St. Paul foursome (Travis Bale, Ian McMillan, Connor Njegovan) to win Swan River’s Westwood Inn Classic – the week 8 scheduled event on the Manitoba Curling Tour presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries.

The Hartung team shared the $8,000 first prize while Forrest and his crew took home $5,000. Both teams moved into the top 15 on the MCT’s  Men’s rankings with Hartung at #10 and Forrest at #12.

Semifinalist Daley Peters and his East St. Paul team moved back into first place on the rankings list while Curtis McCannell, the other semifinalist, moved up to #8 on the rankings list. It is the Pilot Mound team’s first appearance in the MCT top 10. The two teams each earned $2,500.

Quarterfinalists #5 Scott Ramsay-Granite (up from #6); #6 Kelly Marnoch-Carberry (up from #7); and Saskatchewan teams skipped by Shaun Meachem and Josh Heidt all earned $1,250 cheques.  Meachem and Heidt make their first appearances on the MCT rankings list, tied in the 28th ranking.

On the MCT’s Women’s rankings on the past weekend, Kim Link-East St. Paul and her team moved alone into first place on the ranking (formerly tied) when they reached the final of CurlManitoba’s Scotties berth bonspiel in Gimli. Team Link lost the game (7-5), and the berth, to Shannon Birchard-St Vital (Nicole Sigvaldason, Sheyna Andries, Mariah Mondor, Coach Bruce Birchard). Team Birchard moved into #2 spot on the rankings list (up from #8).

Darcy Robertson’s Rossmere team lost the semi-final but moved up to #3 (from #5) on the rankings list. #4 Michelle Montford-Assiniboine Memorial (down from being tied for #1) and #5 Kerri Einarson-East St. Paul & Kristy McDonald-Granite (tied, down from #3) did not compete in the event.
