This past weekend, Oct. 16 to 18, Stonewall Curling Club hosted their yearly Manitoba Junior Curling Tour (MJCT) event, the Family Foods Junior Stonewall Classic!

Great to hear that this local event became probably the LARGEST Junior Bonspiel on the MJCT season with 30 teams entered! M.J.C.T. represents the 20 and Under age category, with events created to enhance the most Elite junior curlers in the province.

After 3 days of round robin games, and then close semi-final games, both Mens & Womens Finals came down to 8th end, last rock decisions! On the Jr Mens side, Team Oryniak of Granite Curling Club beat Team Wiebe of Portage. Team Oryniak includes Jordan Smith, formerly of Warren, MB. The Jr Mens team grabbed $900 for first place! (Pictured above: Team Oryniak includes Derek Oryniak, Jordan Smith, Chris Gallant, Kyle Allenby, Coach Darren Oryniak, with event co-ordinator Darrel Argan).

On the Jr Womens side, local Stonewall Members Team Rebecca Lamb, ranked #3 in MJCT faced underdogs Team Bevan of Elmwood Curling Club, ranked #7 in MB’s MJCT. Team Bevan did seal the win after it came down to the last shot of the 8th end, and they grabbed the top $800 first place prize.

COME BACK TO STONEWALL CURLING CLUB NEXT WEEKEND AGAIN, as the CurlMB Provincial Berth Bonspiel will be played Oct. 23rd to 25th, when 31 teams this time play off for 4 spots to advance to 20 & Under Provincials early in January.

Thank you to event sponsor Family Foods.
