Gold Medal for Team Neufeld at Canadian Seniors

Randy Neufeld's LaSalle team (Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls, Dale Michie) have won the Canadian Senior Men's Championship in Edmonton with a 6-4 semifinal game win over New Brunswick followed by a final game 5-3 win over Quebec. Alberta had finished first in the championship round robin but lost the semi-final 6-2 to fourth place Quebec. New Brunswick defeated Alberta in the Bronze Medal game. On the women's side, Kim Link's East St. Paul team finished with a 3-4 record after the championship round robin round. Alberta defeated Nova Scotia for the Women's Gold Medal. British Columbia beat Saskatchewan for the Women's Bronze Medal.

Fridayday: Neufeld 5-2; Into Playoffs Canadian Seniors - Randy Neufeld's Manitobans lost their final round robin game 6-2 to Alberta to finish the championship round with a 5-2 record, tied with New Brunswick in a second place tie behind Alberta's 6-1 record. Manitoba plays New Brunswick in a Saturday semi-final while ALberta will play Quebec who finished with a 4-3 record. On the final day of the Women's senior event, Kim Link's Manitoba team lost 5-4 to Saskartchewan, then beat Nova Scotia's Colleen Jones by the same 5-4 score. Link finished out of the playoffs with a 3-4 record.

Thursday: Neufeld 5-1; Link 2-3 at Canadian Seniors - Randy Neufeld's Manitoba team won their lone game Thursday (6-2 over Nova Scotia) and hold a record of 5 wins - 1 loss with a game to play Friday evening against Alberta. Alberta is tied for first in the men's championship with Manitoba so the winner will advance to the final playoff in first place. Even with a loss, the loser will advance to the playoff round as well. Quebec & New Brunswick are 4-2 while Ontario is 3-3. Depending on final day wins and losses, all could still make the playoff round.

On the women's side, Kim Link's Manitoba lost 5-2 to Quebec and have a record of 2 wins - 3 losses with two games to play Friday. Manitoba will have to win twice Friday to have a chance to advance. They play Saskatchewan (4-1) and Nova Scotia (3-2).

Wednesday: Neufeld 4-1; Link 2-2 at Canadian Seniors - Randy Neufeld's Manitoba Senior Men's champions won their first two games in the second round of play at the Everest Canadian Seniors in Edmonton. The 7-5 win over Quebec and 9-5 win over Saskatchewan give Team Manitoba a championship round record of 4-1, tied with Alberta for first place. Meanwhile Kim Link's Manitoba champions lost their first game of the second round (6-3 to Northern Ontario) and have a 2-2 record.           

Manitoba Teams Advance to the Canadian Seniors Championship Round - Manitoba’s Randy Neufeld-La-Sale (Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls, Dale Michie) and Kim Link-East St. Paul (Karen Fallis, Janice Blair, Allyson Bell) have advanced through the preliminary round robin into the second qualifying round at the Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Edmonton.              

Neufeld defeated Ontario Tuesday evening in the 6th game of the round to improve to a 5-1 record, tied with Ontario, but ranked first thanks to the evening win.
Manitoba and Ontario (5-1), New Brunswick (4-3) and BC (3-3) advanced from their pool while Alberta (5-1), Nova Scotia and Quebec (4-2) and Saskatchewan (3-3) advanced from the other pool. Each team now plays four more games, against the four teams from the other pool, to determine the four teams which advance to weekend playoffs.

On the women’s side, the Link team lost their final round robin game 6-4 to Alberta and finished the round at 3-2. They advanced along with Alberta (5-0), BC (3-2), and Newfoudland-Labrador (2-3). From the other pool, Saskatchewan (6-0), Nova Scotia (5-1), Northern Ontario and Quebec (3-3) all advanced.

In this second round of play, the teams record ONLY against the teams which advanced with them from the preliminary round is counted. Entering the second round, Both Team Link and Team Neufeld’s record is 2-1.
