Westcott, Malanchuk Win Masters Finals

In a re-match of the 2014 final, Doug Armour-Souris and Ron Westcott-Fort Rouge met in the final of the CurlManitoba Manitoba's Credit Unions Masters Men's Championship in Swan River. Once again, the final was won by Westcott. Armour scored a thre eon the seventh end to take a 6-4 lead in the match but the defending champion came back with a three of his own on the last end for a 7-6 victory.

Earlier, Armours stole a point on an extra end to defeat Carl German-East St Paul (7-6) in the Page 1-1 Playoff Game. Defending champion Ron Westcott-Fort Rouge survived the tiebreakers and defeated Jim Renwick-Brandon 7-5 in the Page 2-2 Game. Trailing 5-3, Westcott scored a 4 coming home to win. In the semifinal against German, a four-ender on the fifth gave Westcott control enroute to a 10-5 win.

Sunday PM: Malanchuk Wins Masters Final; 4-Way Second Place Tie in Men's - Defending champion Pat Malanchuk-St Vital and her team of Karen Sheldon, Nancy Scammell, Ruth Wiebe have repeated as champions in the CurlManitoba Manitoba's Credit Unions Masters Women's Championship. The Malanchuk foursome defeated Kathy Isaac-Morden (Lynn Sandercock, Myrna Stewart, Mardie Newton) 8-6 in the provincial final.

Sunday Draw 2: Malanchuk-Isaac Women's Masters Final; 4-Way Second Place Tie in Men's - Ron Westcott's defending Manitoba Masters Men's team lost their opening two games at the 2015 championship in Swan River but have fought back with four wins in their final five games to earn a spot in a tiebreaker for second place. Westcott improved to 4-3 by defeating Brent McCannell-Wildewood (9-3) in the final round robin game and at the same time brought McCannell back to 4-3. That gave Al Sharpe-Heather a chance to grab second place but Sharpe also lost 6-4 to Jim Todoruk-Dauphin to finish at 4-3. Gary Dola-Selkirk defeated Brian Kushner-Heather 7-4 to join the second place tie group. Carl German-East St Paul lost his final game 8-7 to Rae Hainstock-Brandon to finish at 6-1 but had first place locked up before the final game.

Sunday Draw 1: Malanchuk-Isaac Women's Masters Final; Armour-German Page 1-1 Game in Men's - Doug Armour and his Souris team (Ken Sabad, Bill Scott, Reg Warren) have completed the round-robin undefeated with a Sunday morning 9-1 win over Dewar McKinnon-Fort Rouge. Armour will advance to the Page 1-1 Playoff Game against Carl German-East St Paul (Clarence Kohut, Lawrie Hogg, Brian Cox) who has a 6-0 record and has first place in the other pool locked up with a game to play. Jim Renwick-Brandon (Gil Van Daele, Harvey Heise, Bill Sutherland, Jim Dyck) defeated Pat Carson-Fot Rouge 5-4 to earn second place at 6-1 and they awairt the results of the noon draw and possible tiebreakers to know who they will play against in the 2-2 Game.

Saturday Draw 4: Malanchuk-Isaac Women's Masters Final - Kathy Isaac-Morden scored one on the 7th end and stole coming home to defeat Joyce McDougall-Brandon in the Manitoba's Credit Unions Masters Women's semifinal in Swan River. Isaac will play defending champion Pat Malanchuk-St Vital in the Sunday final. In the Men's Division, Carl German-East St Paul stayed undefeated and moved to 6-0 with a 6-5 extra end win over Ron Westcott-Fort Rouge. The 6-0 record assures the former Canadian Senior champion of a spot in the Page 1-1 Playoff game.Wins by Brent McCannell-Wildewood (6-5 over Rae Hainstock-Brandon) and Al Sharpe-Heather (8-6 over Gary Dola-Selkirk) have moved  them into second place with 4-2 records. Westcott and Dola have 3-3 records. Westcott plays McCannell so a Westcott win would mean two teams at 4-3. Sharpe plays Jim Todoruk, who has a 1-5 record. All three of Sharpe, McCannell, and Westcott could finish at 4-3 in tiebreakers for 2nd place. Gary Dola-Selkirk also is at 3-3 and could move to 4-3 with a win over Brian Kushner-Heather, who is 1-5. Tiebreakers loom however either Sharpe or McCannell could finish at 5-2 to finish alone in second.

Saturday Draw 3: Armour Captures Fiirst Place in Masters Men's, Playoffs Set in Women's in Swan River - Doug Armour-Souris played Jim Renwick-Brandon with the first place spot in the Page 1-1 Game on the line Saturday afternoon. Going into the game, the two had the top two spots locked up with perfect 5-0 records and the winner would earn first spot. Even in armour loses and Renwick wins in their final game Sunday, Armour gets the first place nod thanks to the victory over Renwick. Eric Rawlings-Hamiota won his third in a row to improve to 3-3 tied with Dewar McKinnon-Fort Rouge who on his third game on the late Saturday afternoon draw.

On the final round-robin draw in the Masters Women's division, defending champion Pat Malanchuk-St Vital defeated Joyce McDougall-Brandon to earn the first place bye to the final. McDougall finishes 3-2, tied with Kathy Isaac-Morden. The two will meet in the Saturday evening semi-final.

Saturday Draw 2: German Improves to 5-0 at Masters in Swan River - Carl German and his East St Paul team improved their record to 5-0 with a 6-5 victory over Brent McCannell-Wildewood, on the early draw Saturday at the Manitoba's Credit Unions Masters Men's championship in Swan River. McCannell drops to 3-2, tied for second place in the group with Ron Westcott (7-5 over Rae Hainstock-Brandon), Gary Dola-Selkirk (5-4 win over Jim Todoruk-Dauphin) and Al Sharpe-Heather (10-2 loss to Brian Kushner-Heather). The Masters Women did not play on the noon drw.
