Oliver-Sobkowicz Win Third Straight Manitoba Stick Title

The Assiniboine Memorial twosome of Ernie Oliver and Chris Sobkowicz won the Manitoba Stick Curling Championship for the third straight season on Sunday (March 1st). Playing at their home club, Oliver and Sobkowicz had eight wins without a loss in topping a field of 40 entries in the triple knockout 11th edition of the annual event for two-person teams.  They capped it off with a 5-3 victory over Ken and Shirley Strand of St. Vital in the playoff final.

Earl Stephenson and Les Oliver of St. Vital won the third place bronze playoff, beating Malcolm Wright and Bill Reid of Wildewood 5-3.  Lloyd Simonson and Wayne Davis of Marquette won the consolation event.

The winning Oliver-Sobkowicz team will be competing in the Canadian Stick Curling Championship, to be held April 2-5, also at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club.
