Deer Lodge Send-Off for Team Calvert Also Congratulates Canada Games Champs

Sunday Feb 22 2015

Deer Lodge Curling Club hosted a Sunday evening 'send-off' party for Braden Calvert's Canadian Junior Champion team (Kyle Kurz, Lucas Van Den Bosch, Coach Tom Clasper) as they prepare to leave Tuesday for Estonia to compete in the World Junior Championships. At the same time, the club celebrated the success of Colin Kurz and his team (Ryan Lemoine, Weston Oryniak, Brendan Bilawka, Coach Tom Clasper) at last week's Canada Games.

The coincidence of Tom Clasper being the coach of both teams was not lost on the appreciative crowd.

Of note as well, the Canada Games Gold Medal for Weston Oryniak completed a Canada Games set for the family. Derek Oryniak won bronze at the previous Canada Games after their grandmother, Ina Light, had won silver at the first Canada Games in 1967. In those first games, curling was played as an adult mixed event and Light competed as a member of the Manitoba champion Ernie Boushy team.
