Manitoba's Team Jones Wins Scotties Final

Jennifer Jones and Jill Officer won their fifth Scotties titles. Dawn McEwen won her fourth, and Kaitlyn Lawes here first as Team Manitoba won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Sunday in Moose Jaw, SK. A last rock draw to the rings, facing a Val Sweeting (Alberta) biter was the winning shot in a 6-5 victory for the Olympic gold medallists. In the Bronze MEdal game, Rachel Homan's Team Canada was a 7-5 victor over Saskatchewan (Lawton). Jennifer Jones was the second team all-star skip while all three members of her team earned first team all-star honours.

SATURDAY: Manitoba's Team Jones Advances to Scotties Final - Jennifer Jones and her team posted an 8-6 Friday evening victory over Alberta's Val Sweeting to advance to the Sunday evening final game of the Scottties of Hearts. Sweeting drops in the Saturday afternoon semifinal awaiting the winner of the team Canada (Homan)-Saskatchewan (Lawton) Page 3-4 game which takes place Saturday morning.                              

Friday: Team Jones 10-1, Finishes Top of the Chart in Round Robin - Wins by Manitoba (10-5 over Alberta), Saskatchewan (5-4 EE over Prince Edward Iand), and Team Canada (6-4 over Northern Ontario) on the morning draw hve set the stage for the Scotties playoffs in Moose Jaw. Manitoba (10-1) plays Alberta (9-2) in the Page 1-2 Playoff game at 7pm Friday evening. Saskatchewan (8-3) plays Team Canada (7-4) in the Page 3-4 Playoff game at 10AM Saturday morning.

The semifinal will be played Saturday at 3pm, the Bronze Medal game at 2pm Sunday, and the final at 7pm Sunday.

Thursday Late: Team Jones 9-1, First Place Tie and Spot in the Page 1-2 Playoff Game - Losses by Alberta (9-1 to Saskatchewan) and by Team Canada (6-5 to New Brunswick) on the late draw Thursday set up a dramatic Friday morning final round robin draw. Tied with 9-1 records in the round-robin, Manitoba and Alberta have claimed spots in the Page Playoff 1-2 game. They will play the final round robin game for first place and last rock in the playoff match at 7pm Friday.

The win for Saskatchewan's Lawton team earned them a playoff spot with a 7-3 record as well and put Team Canada into a must win Friday morning game with Northern Ontario's Tracy Horgan. Both Team Canada and Northern Ontario have 6-4 records.

Thursday PM: Team Jones 9-1, Second Place in Scotties Round Robin - A pair of Manitoba victories Thursday improved the Jennifer Jones team's record to 9-1, behind the 9-0 Alberta (Sweeting) record going into the Thursday evening draw. However, Manitoba was also 3 wins ahead of the third place teams and cannot be overtaken by them. The final round robin draw match between Alberta and Manitoba on Friday morning will be a game for the first place playoff position. Manitoba's Thursday wins came over Prince Edward ISland (10-3) and Northern Ontarion (9-3). Saskatchewan (Lawton) and Team Canada (Homan) are tied for third at 6-3 with Northern Ontario at 6-4.

WEDNESDAY LATE: Jennifer Jones and her Manitoba Champions sit in second place in the round robin at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Mooose Jaw. An extra end wn over Team Canada (Rachel Homan) Monday evening had given Manitoba an edge on Homan and a share of first place with Alberta's Val Sweeting.

Manitoba lost Wednesday morning to Nova Scotia to fall out of the first place tie but then Nova Scotia did Manitoba a favour on Wednesday afternooon by beating Team Canada as well. With an evening win over New Brunswick, Manitoba improved to 7-1.

After the evening draw Wednesday, Alberta (Sweeting) led the way with a perfect 8-0 record followed by Manitoba (Jones) at 7-1, Team Canada (Homan) at 6-2 and Saskatchewan (Lawton) & Northern Ontario (Horgan) at 5-3.
