Neufeld/Strath Team Win Manitoba Open HalfSpiel

Sunday Jan 18 2015

Randy Neufeld, skipping a team comprising Kaileigh Strath, D’Arcy Maywood, and his daughter Sabrena Neufeld, has won the Manitoba Open HalfSpiel with a 5-1 final game victory over Wayne Oliver-Marquette. The game featured two skips curling with daughters as teammates. “I have been waiting a long time for the chance to curl with my daughter in this bonspiel,” a smiling Neufeld said after the game.

The win in the HalfSpiel, a four event addition to the annual CurlManitoba bonspiel, comes a decade after Neufeld lost the final game of the MCA Bonspiel (now Manitoba Open) to Randy Dutiaume.

Oliver’s Marquette team included his daughters Sara and Brandi, along with Taryn Dreger and Paige Watkins.

The three other event winners in the Manitoba Open HalfSpiel, sponsored by Asham Curling Supplies, were Vern Funk-St. Vital (8-5 over Reed Winstone-Fort Rouge), David Aitken-Erikson (4-3 over Ray Muth-Elmwood), and Colin Kurz-Granite (8-4 over Ray Porier-Pembina)
