Finals Tonight in Manitoba Open

Sunday Jan 18 2015

Heather and West Kildonan Curling Clubs will host the 13 event final games tonight at 7pm. Former Champion Mark Lukowich-Granite will play Trevor Loreth for the Asham Event title and the bonspiel championship. As Loreth is already qualified for the Safeway Championship, Team Lukowich also earns a Safeway berth, whether or not they win the game which will be played at Heather.

A playoff will be required for the other three available Safeway berths as at least two finalists are not concerned about winning a Safeway berth.

NOTT AUTOCORP (at Heather) Daniel Birchard-Pembina vs Jason Gunnlaugson-Granite. The Gunnlaugson foursome is the Dunstone Junior team which has already qualified for the Safeway Championship. Gunnlaugson is skipping in place of Diunstone who will be goiing to the World University Championship with a different team.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS (at Heather) Dunstone's University team plays Ron Gauthier-Heather. This Dunstone team is going to be in Spain for the University event so they can't win the Safeway berth.

Birchard and Gauthier, if they are eligible, are the teams in line for two of the Safeway berths in the bonspiel. A playoff will back-up to last night's semi-finalists for whatever berths are still available. IF THEY ARE ELIGIBLE, they are Greg Mikolajek-Fort Rouge and Merv Satterthwaite-St Vital.
