Brandon's 40th annual Masters Men's Bonspiel, sponsored by Crocus Credit Union, attracted a full entry of 48 teams (16 competitive, 32 recreational)  Of the 16 competitive teams, four already had a berth-namely Barry Sadler of Portage, Jim Renwick and Lory Saban of Brandon CC and Doug Armour of Souris. The four teams that qualified for the berth spot were Murray Soloman from Shoal Lake, Eric Rawlings of Hamiota, Lawrie Hogg of Stonewall and Brian Lowdon of Brandon CC. In the semi final, Rawlings defeated Solomon and Lowdon defeated Hogg. Then in the final, Rawlings, without the last rock, defeated Lowdon by scoring 2 on the 8th for an 8 to 7 win. Lowdon's last rock was to the 8 ft. and was  an inch too far to force an extra end.

The bonspiel was won by Dave Liddle of the Brandon CC as he had the most points by any team - including the competitive division. This team was skipped by Gord Cable (80 years old). In the unique Brandon format, points are established by 10 points for a win plus 2 points for each end scored.

In addition to the Hogg team from Stonewall, the entry included one WInnipeg team and one from Chilliwack, BC. Those who have attended the bonspiel in th epast will be aware of the exceptional event banquet provided by the Riverview Curling Club as well as the entertainment, some intentional-some accidental, provided by Arny Guist of Crocus Credit Union and draw master Wayne Griffin
