Three Junior Curlers Among Sport Scholarship Recipients
Sunday Jun 28 2009Three curlers are among ten multi-sport high school athletes who have been awarded $500 Manitoba Foundation for Sport sscholarships as announced earlier this week in Winnipeg. The program's emphasis is placed on athletes who have competed at the provincial level or higher during 2009, and who have maintained a high level of academic standing, while showing a commitment to amateur sport through their involvement in coaching, officiating and volunteer activities. Ten high school athletes receive $500 scholarships and 10 university athletes receive $1000 scholarships.
The three recipients among the 20 who identified curling as one of their sports were two with rural Manitoba roots and one from Winnipeg.
** Winnipegger Kevin Stevens (Dakota Collegiate - plans to attend McMaster University) was a participant in Volleyball, Curling, and Track.
** Eastman`s Rachele Bosc (Balmoral Hall School - plans to attend University of Manitoba) was a participant in Hockey, Curling, Basketball, and Soccer.
** Parkland`s Kristjana Schure (Swan Valley Regional Secondary Scool - plans to attend Brandon University) was a participant in Volleyball, Basketball, and Curling. Schure was the second on the Swan Valley Tigers at the MHSAA provincials in Carberry in 2009. They posted an 0-2 record.

Brayden Duff - Winnipeg: Garden City Collegiate - plans to attend University of Winnipeg....Basketball/ Volleyball /Track
Alyssa Grant - Winnipeg: Oak Park High School - plans to attend University of Winnipeg....Basketball/ Volleyball
Alison Smith - Winnipeg: Kelvin High School - plans to attend University of Manitoba....Fencing
Matthew Stubler - Winnipeg: Miles Macdonell Collegiate - plans to attend University of Winnipeg....Volleyball / Soccer

In addition to the Manitoba Foundation for Sports Scholarships announced Tuesday, four student athlete-coaches have been awarded Sport Manitoba-Coaching Manitoba bursaries in recognition of commitment to coaching in Manitoba. The goal of the program is to encourage students to continue coaching while attending a post-secondary institution. One male and one female, each from rural Manitoba and Winnipeg receive a $500 bursary to be used towards their 2009 - 2010 tuition. This year`s recipients are:
Katherine Unger - Interlake: University of Manitoba, coaching in Ringette
Jean Paul Magnan - Eastman: Acadia University, coaching in Lacrosse
Juliana Vipond - Winnipeg: University of Manitoba, coaching in Rowing
Tyler Kohut - Winnipeg: University of Winnipeg, coaching in Basketball
