Forrest Lone Undefeated in Atkins Junior League

A win by Alex Forrest (7-2 over Dylan Gousseau) has moved the defending champion alone into first place with a perfect 5-0 record in the Atkins Curling Supplies Junior Super League. Kate Cameron has sole possession of second place at 4-2 after a win over Steen Sigurdson (6-5). With the loss, Sigurdson missed his chance to move to four wins - likewise Sam Good who lost to Riley Smith (8-4). With the win, Smith improved his record to  to 3-3 in a tie for third with Daniel Birchard (6-3 over Shannon Birchard); Matt Dunstone (9-2 over Joel Hildebrand) and Alyssa Vandepoele (5-4 loss to Breanne Meakin).

Week #5: Cameron, Sigurdson Improve to 3 Wins in Atkins Junior League - Some games were postponed in Thursday's Atkins Junior Super League schedule as some teams are out-of-province at the OVCA Junior SuperSpiel. Steen Sigurdson and Kate Cameron moved into a share of second place with three wins behind Alex Forrest who did not play and whose 4-0 record went unchanged. Cameron's victory was an extra end win over Matt Dunstone (6-5) and Sigurdson's win (5-2) came over Breanne Meakin. Daniel Birchard (7-4 over Dylan Gousseau) and Shannon Birchard (8-2 over the Alyssa Vandepoele entry which was represented by Curtis Kaatz & his team) improved both Birchard teams to 2-2 records. Although Dunstone recorded a loss on Thursday, the young team's record also gained one this week in the win column with a 6-4 win over Meakin, completing the postponed game from Week #3.

WEEK #4: Forrest Sole Unbeaten in Atkins Junior League - Alex Forrest and his Vantage Builders team needed an extra end Thursday but they survivied with a 5-4 win over Joel Hildebrand and are now the only undefeated team in the Atkins Junior Super League at Pembina CC. Previously unbeaten ALyssa Vandepoele was absent for a school commitment and Derek Blanchard skipped the team which suffered its first lost, 5-1 to Dylan Gousseau. Sam Good kept pace with a 4-1 win over Daniel Birchard. Riley Smith improved to 2-2 with an 8-3 win over Matt Dunstone. Steen Sigurdson also earned his second win, 5-2 over Shannon Birchard. Breanne Meakin's first win of the league season was a 7-4 victory over Kate Cameron.

Week 3: Vandepoele, Forrest Still Unbeaten in Atkins Junior League Games - Alex Forrest`s Vantage Builders team needed an extra end to defeat Riley Smith (5-4) Thursday in the Atkins Curling Supplies Junior Super League at Pembina CC. Fiorrest improved his record to 3-0 and last year`s provincial unior women`s finalist Alyssa Vandepoele kept pace with a win over provincial junior men`s champ Sam Good (8-4). In the other games played, Daniel Birchard's team earned thier first league win with a victory over Joel Hildebrand (8-3) and Kate Cameron improved to 2-1 wiht a win over Shannon Birchard (5-2). Two games were postponed (Sigurdson vs Gousseau, Meakin vs Dunstone) to accommodate teams competing in bonspiels this weekend.

WEEK 2: Vandepoele, Forrest, Good Win 2nd Atkins Junior League Games - Alyssa Vandepoele, Alex Forrest and Sam Good all improved their Atkins Junior Super league records to 2-0 with wins Thursday at the Pembina Curling Club. The three teams share the league lead after the first two rounds of play. Vandepoel was a 6-5 winner over Joel Hildebrand while Forrest defeated Matt Dunstone (5-4) and Good was a winner over Steen Sigurdson (6-3). Kate Cameron needed an extra end for her first win (7-6 over Dylan Gousseau). Riley Smith also earned his first win (5-1 over Daniel Birchard) as did Shannon Birchard, who defeated Breanne Meakin (6-2).

Week 1: Forrest Wins to Begin Defense of Atkins Junior League Title - Defending champion Alex Forrest and his team opened their 2009-10 Atkins Curling Supplies Junior Super League season with an 8-2 win over Daniel Birchard Thursday at Pembina CC. Forrest is, in fact, two-time defending champion, considering that he played with league champion Geoff Lang two seasons ago. The Forrest team line-up (pictured r-l) includes Joey Witherspoon, Connor Njegovan, & Mike Neufeld and they are coached by Tom Clasper.

In other games on the league's opening draw, reigning Manitoba Junior Men's Champion Sam Good defeated Manitoba High Schools Women's champion Kate Cameron (6-1) while provincial Junior Women's finalist Alyssa Vandepoele was winner over Riley Smith (6-2). Matt Dunstone beat Shannon Birchard (8-5), Breanne Meakin lost 6-3 to Dylan Gousseau, and Steen Sigurdson needed an extra end to beat Joel Hildebrand (8-6).

Atkins Junior Super League Draw Announced - Atkins Curling Supplies Junior Curling League action begins October 1st with a 4:45pm draw at the Pembina Curling Club. Featured games on the opening draw of the 12-team round-robin frmat league will be Provincial Junior Men's Champion Sam Good against Manitoba High Schools Women's champion Kate Cameron and defending league champion Alex Forrest against Daniel Birchard.

2009-06-14.....Atkins Junior Super League Team Line-Ups Announced...League champion Alex Forrest with his new lineup will return to defend his title when the Atkins Curling Supplies Junior Super League begins play at the Pembina Curling Club on October 1, 2009. Reigning Manitoba Junior Men's Champion Sam Good and league newcomer Matt Dunstone will provide strong challenges along with five other young men's teams. The challenging Junior Women's teams are skipped by Brianne Meakin, Manitoba High School champion Kate Cameron, last year's provincial finalist Alyssa Vandepoele, and Shannon Birchard. Meakin returns to the skip position after winning a World championship Silver medal with Kaitlyn Lawes.
