Burtnyk, Stoughton Qualify for Canadian Curling Trials

Tuesday Apr 22 2008

Manitoba's Kerry Burtnyk and Jeff Stoughton teams have qualified to be a part of the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials process as a result of their standings on the Canadian Team Ranking (CTRS) this season. At this point, the two Manitoba teams are assured of at least a spot in the Pre-Trials Qualifier event in Prince George, BC in NOvember of 2009.

Burtnyk and Stoughton qualify from the CTRS listing along with Pat Simmons (SK) and Wayne Middaugh (ON) since this year's four qualifying events were won by teams who had already qualified during the first year of this three year process.

** 2008 Canada Cup Winner - - Kevin Koe (replaced by CTRS #5 - Kerry Burtnyk)
** 2008 Brier Winner - Kevin Martin (replaced by CTRS #6 - Pat Simmons)
** 2008 Players Championship Winner Glenn Howard (replaced by CTRS #7 - Jeff Stoughton)
** 2008 CTRS Winner - Glenn Howard (replaced by CTRS #8 Wayne Middaugh)

The recent defection of Ryan Fry, who has announced plans to move to Newfoundland and curl next season with Brad Gushue, has no effect on Stoughton's eligibility for the berth in the pre-trials qualifying event.
