Lang, Drews Win Travelers Club Championships in Carman

Tyler Drews-Fort Rouge (Josh Drews, Daryl Evans, Jake Zelenewich) and Marlene Lang-St Vital (Pamela Kok, Jackie Hendrickson, Lori Campbell) will represent Manitoba at the Travelers National Club Championship in the fall of 2015 after winning the provincial championships today in Carman. Drews trailed Kyle Csversko-Neepawa 4-3 coming home but stole a pair to win 5-4. For Lang a steal also won the game. Trailing former champion Stacey Fordyce-Brandon 7-5 coming home, Lang scored a deuce then stole on the extra end for an 8-7 win.

In the men's semifinals Drews beat Rob Findlay-Carman (6-5) while Csversko beat Dan Bender-St Vital (4-3). In the women's semifinals, Lang defeated Jackie Dewar-Rossmere (6-4) and Fordyce beat Diane Hayward (6-5).

SATURDAY: Fordyce & Lang, Drews & Findlay Lock up Playoff Berths in Travelers Club Championship - Former Champion Stacey Fordyce-Brandon has completed her round robin at the 2015 Travelers Curling Club Championship  in Carman with a perfect 5-0 record. Two wins ahead of second place Jackie Rintoul-Portage, Fordyce and her Brandon team were assured of a playoff berth before the final round robin draw began. Rintoul lost (7-4 to Deb McCreanor-Charleswood) while Jackie Dewar-Rossmere won (10-1 over Chelsea Manaigre-Steinbach) to improve to 3-2 and force a tiebreaker game Sunday morning at 10AM. In the other pool, Marlene Lang-St Vital defeated Natasha Van Dorp-Petersfield (6-1) to finish perfect at 5-0. Diane Hayward-Carman defeated Darla Hanke-Neepawa (7-5) in the final game to earn the second playoff game from the group with a 3-2 record.

In the semifinals, Lang plays the winner of the Rintoul-Dewar tiebeaker and Fordyce plays Hayward.

In the men's championship, Tyler Drews-Fort Rouge defeated Allan Croy Petersfield 4-3 in the final round robin game to finish undefeated at 5-0. Drews and Kyle Csversko-Neepawa who had earlier completed his round robin with a 4-1 will make the playoffs. In the other pool, Dan Bender-St Vital and Rob Findlay-Carman were at 3-1 and played each other in their final game with first place and a playoff berth on the line.  Bender won 8-2 to  finish with a 4-1 record. Jared Schumann-Gillam and Neil Bugg-Boissevain were a win back at 2-2 and both could finish 3-2 in a tie with the loser of the Bender-Findlay game but both lost their final games, allowing FIndlay with his 3-2 record to advance to the playoffs.

At 2pm Sunday in Carman, Bender plays Csversko and Drews meets Findlay in the semifinals.

Travelers Club Championship This Weekend in Carman - CurlManitoba is hosting the 2015 Travelers Curling Club Championship April 2-5, 2015 at the Carman Curling Club. The men’s and women’s winners of the Travelers Curling Club Provincial Championship will have the opportunity to represent Manitoba at the 2016 Canadian Travelers Curling Club Championship November 23-28, 2015 in Ottawa, Ontario. The first draw goes at 1pm Thursday with the round robin wrapping up Saturday and playoffs on Sunday.
