(Final Update) Howard Wins Shorty Spiel - Carruthers Falls Short

World Champion Glenn Howard was a 6-4 winner over Brad Gushue in the final of the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in Brockville.

Manitoba's Reid Carruthers qualified for the playoff but lost his opening game 10-7 to Peter Corner. Corner lost 5-3 to Gushue in the semi-final while Howard defeated Kevin Martin 7-4.

(Round Robin Report) Reid Carruthers and his young team have posted a perfect 5-0 round robin record at the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in Brockville.

Team won their late Saturday 8-3 over Al Harnden, Sault Ste. Marie.

In the first round of the Sunday playoff Carruthers plays Peter Corner (4-1); Kevin Martin (5-0) plays Wayne Tuck Jr, Brantford, ON (4-1); Wayne Middaugh (5-0) plays Glenn Howard (4-1); and Brad Gushue (4-1) plays Roberts Desjardins of Chicoutimi, PQ (4-1)

Wayne Middaugh and Wayne Tuck Jr (Brantford, ON) lead their groups with perfect 4-0 records. Kevin Martin and Roberts Desjardins of Chicoutimi, PQ are both perfect in the other grouping.

Saturday afternoon, Carruthers stole 4 on the 6th end to beat Ken Thompson (Cataraqui Golf and Country Club-ON) 10-1.

On Friday, Carruthers beat Canadian and World Champion Glenn Howard 7-4 Friday afternoon on the heels of a 7-5 win over Pierre Charette (with Guy Hemmings throwing 4th). Their opener on Thursday was a 7-5 victory over Sarnia?s Heath McCormick.

The Manitoba foursome finish their round robin Saturday evening against Al Harnden, (Sault Ste Marie-ON). Playoffs are scheduled for Sunday.
