North First Carman Champion in DEKALB Super League

Saturday Jan 14 2012

Carman's Dean North team (Darcy Hayward, Billy North, Warren McCutcheon, Bill North Sr.) needed an extra end but didn't have to throw the last rock to win the 2011-12 DEKALB Super League title on home ice in Carman. Daryl Bachalo's final draw was a few inches heavy as he attempted a draw from the outside around a North stone in the top of the 12 foot circle. North posted a 6-5 final game victory to become the first Carman team in the ten year history of the league to win the championship.

Bachalo was supported in his efforts by Dean Moxham,Greg Brooks, and Trent Botterill.

The champions payday was $3,000 out of the total championship day payout of $8,600. Including the round robin per win cheques of $100 for each win, the total DEKALB Super League prize pool totalled just under $20,000. The final game of the DEKALB Super League may have turned on the 6th end. With the game tied 4-4, Dean North got the rings split with rocks biting the eight foot circle - both behid the tee-line. Bachalo hit and stick - North hit and rolled out with is last rock to rock just a single.

Bachalo blanked the seventh end and appeared to have the home end going his way when Bill North Sr., subbing at second, made a double kill with his second stone. From there the teams traded shots and Bachalo made a last rock hit to tie and go to the extra end.
