Eastman Junior Curling League to Play in Ste Anne & Steinbach

Monday Sep 17 2007

From a League Release

The Ste Anne Curling Club is excited to announce their successful Junior League will be expanding to Steinbach Curling Club after a very successful first year. The league will be renamed the Southeast Manitoba Junior League. This league is open to all junior curlers in Southeast Manitoba. Junior curlers aged 11 to 20 will have their own league on Sunday evenings, 6:00 to 8:15 pm at the Ste Anne and Steinbach Curling Clubs beginning mid-October.

?It?s great to see the huge interest in junior curling at both clubs. The idea of a combined Junior League started with a conversation last season with Wilf and Lori Peters of the Steinbach Curling Club,? states Anni Markmann, president, Ste Anne Curling Club and Eastman Regional board member of the Manitoba Curling Association.

The Southeast Manitoba Junior Curling League will encourage the teams of four to be made up of all junior women or all junior men since that is the type of bonspiels and competitive events that are available to enter (there are no mixed events for curlers aged 16 to 20). However, any mix of genders is welcome to curl. Curlers can enter as a team, a part team or as an individual looking for a team.

?Wouldn?t it be great to have one of our clubs in Southeast Manitoba hoist a banner in their club announcing they have a Provincial Junior Champion? The possibility only exists if we keep our junior athletes engaged in curling in our home communities,? adds Markmann.

The Ste Anne and Steinbach Curling Clubs offer various junior programs in addition to the expanded junior league, plus adult instruction and leagues for men?s, women?s, and mixed teams from mid-October to mid-March.
