Moncton awarded 2009 Ford World Men?s Curling Championship

The World Curling Federation has announced that the 2009 Ford World Men's Curling Championship will be played in President Les Harrison's hometown, Moncton, NB.

Will be the third world championship event in Moncton which previously hosted the Air Canada Silver Broom in 1980 (won by Rick Folk). New Brnswick also hosted the Ford Worlds in 1999 when Hammy McMillan and Elisabeth Gustafson won the gold medals in Saint John.

The event will be played April 4-12 in the 7,000-seat Moncton Coliseum.

2009 will be the 50th anniversary of world curling championship play. It will be the final year of points accumulation for the 2010 Olympics.
