Carberry Changes Dates, Brandon Needs Entries for Lotteries Classic and Andrews Legends Spiel

Friday Sep 24 2010

Organizers of the Manitoba Curling Tour Bonspiel in Carberry, the King Spud Classic, have advised that due to some ice-plant problems in the Carberry club the dates for this year's Manitoba Curling Tour Men's and Women's events have been changed. The new dates are October 28-31. Teams are currently being advised of the change and bonspiel details such as prize payout will be confirmed once it is known how many teams will be able to play on the new dates. If the new dates work for you, and you weren't previously entered in the Carberry bonspiel, it would be a good idea to contact Kelly Marnoch to advise of your interest. If a vacancy opens up due to a conflict for a team on the new date, he will no doubt be delighted to hear from you.
In Brandon, the Manitoba Lotteries Men's Curling Classic still has a couple of openings for the MCT/WCT event which runs October 8-11.  Interested teams are encouraged to contact Derek Pagenies ([email protected]) OR Shawn Taylor ([email protected]) (204-571-4560).
Also in Brandon, the Neil Andrews Legends bonspiel still has three openings for the October 15-17 weekend. If interested contact Darryl Andrews ([email protected]) (204-729-4949). The Andrews Legends 'spiel is the first of three Senior Men's events in a row. The Andrews - the Gunnlaugson at Thistle - and the McDiarmid Lumber berth spiel. Some had worried that Winnipeg teams might to want to avoid the 3-in-a-row scenario and would pass up the Brandon event in order to save on travel costs. It seems, however, that hasn't applied to some teams who have opted to skip the Gunnlaugson in order not to be playing on back-to-back weekends.
