Meakin Receives Manitoba Foundation for Sports Scholarship

Wednesday Jun 30 2010

Manitoba Junior Women's champion skip Brianne Meakin is one of 13 student athletes announced recently as recipients of the Manitoba Foundation for Sports scholarships through Sport Manitoba. Seven High School students have received $500 scholarships. Six post-secondary students, entering second or subsequent year, have received $1,000 scholarships. In addition to University of Manitoba curler Meakin, the recipients include U of M Volleyballers Ashley and Chris Voth, U of M Hockey player Stephane Lenoski, U of M Track & Field athlete Amanda Gundrum, and Brandon University Volleyballer Jevian Haywood.

The Manitoba Foundation for Sports Scholarship Program supports young athletes of Sport Manitoba partners who participate in amateur sport while pursuing a post secondary education on a full time basis.  The emphasis of the Manitoba Foundation for Sports Scholarships is placed on athletes who have competed at the provincial level or higher in the previous year and who have maintained a high level of academic standing.

Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to amateur sport through their involvement in coaching, officiating and volunteer activities. Preference is given to students continuing their post secondary studies in Manitoba.
