My First (Official) Canadian Curling Association AGM

Saturday Jun 19 2010

I knew going in that the day after the CCA Annual Meeting I would have a gigantic conflict of interest. As a media guy, I want to report the news. As CurlManitoba's Vice President and therefore a voting delegate to the meetings, I must respect the integrity of the entire CCA process.

And that means waiting until the CCA process sends its news release to my email inbox. So that means you'll have to wait for the news until the same day it is received by Winnipeg Sùn`s Jim Bender, Golden West`s Clayton Dreger, Brandon Sun`s Keith Borkowsky, OB`s Bob Irving, Global`s Joe Pascucci, CTV`s Kevin O and whoever reports on curling these days for the Winnipeg Free Press.

Let me say this. That news release includes good news for all of Canadian curling and your Manitoba contingent took a role in the meeting that I believe would give pride to Manitoba curling leaders like Presidents Bill Lumsden, Cec Watt, Stan Oleson, Zivan Saper, Barry Greenberg and the many other positive leaders we have sent to these meetings in past years.

President Cindy Maddock, Executive Director Shane Ray, CCA Governor Mitch Tarapasky, Blind Curling Coordinator Doris Koop, Blind Curling spokesman Vic Pereira, and I humbly suggest, even yours truly were positive influences in a sometimes contentious but always forward-moving set of discussions and information sessions. (PIctured l-r are Maddock, Tarapasky, Coutts & Ray with the Parliament Buidlings in the background.)

It is a good thing this is summer time. It would be tough keeping my mouth shut Monday night if I were doing a RockTalk show this week on CFRW. Keep it shut I will, but I do have lots to talk about the day that news release arrives.
