Smith Announces New Team Line-Up
Thursday Jun 03 2010
A new team with no fewer than a dozen Manitoba championship crests plus a Canadian and World title to their credit will make an appearance when Manitoba curling starts to roll again in the fall of 2010. Garth Smith, coming off several season on the front-end of Kerry Burtnyk's 2008 Manitoba champion team, will take the experience of several years of World Curling Tour competition to the tee as he skipsa team of Ken Tresoor, Ross McFadyen, and Miyes Riddell.
Although none of the three other former Manitoba champions have played a great deal of competitive curling in recent years, this is a team with potential as well as being one which will no doubt be a pleasure for other teams to compete against. Former World Champion Ken Tresoor's experience at third will be an asset.
Skip: Garth Smith - Manitoba Men's Champion 2008 (lead for Kerry Burtnyk) and Manitoba Junior Champion 1987 & 1998 (lead for Brent Braemer),
Third: Ken Tresoor - Manitoba Men's Champion 1991 (2nd for Jeff Stoughton) & 1996 (3rd for Stoughton) - Canadian & World Champion in 1996 AND Manitoba Mixed Champion 1990 (2nd for Howard Restall) & 1994 (2nd for Jeff Stoughton)
Second: Ross McFadyen - Manitoba Junior Champion 1992 (2nd for Scott McFadyen) & 1994 (3rd for Kevin MacKenzie) and Manitoba Mixed Champion in 1996 ( second for Chad McMulan). He was the Safeway Select All-Star second in 2003.
Lead: Myles Riddell - Manitoba Junior Champion 1987 & 1998 (2nd for Brent Braemer), 1997 Manitoba Police Champion (lead for Don Nelson), and 1991 MCA Grand Aggregate winner (lead for Dale Duguid)
With a smile, Smith calls his new team "formidable on paper". He welcomes sponsorship offers. (Send an email to resby@thecurler.com to make contact.)
