CurlManitoba announces 2010-11 Calendar of Events

CurlManitoba is pleased to announce the 2010/2011 Calendar of Events. Among the many events being held, CurlManitoba is proud to host Canada’s premier Men’s Provincial Championship, the Safeway Championship in Beausejour February 9-13, where the Jeff Stoughton rink will try to defend his title. CurlManitoba will also host the World’s largest and longest running bonspiel, the 123rd MCA Men’s Bonspiel January 20-24 throughout the city of Winnipeg. Altona will host the pinnacle of Manitoba Women’s curling, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto January 26-30.

The 2010/2011 Curling Season kicks off on October 29-November 1 with the McDiarmid Lumber Senior Men's Bonspiel at various curling clubs throughout Winnipeg. The 8 Ender Christmas Junior Bonspiel takes place December 27 - 30 with the CurlManitoba Women's Bonspiel following in January 14-16 all taking place in various clubs in Winnipeg.

The Junior Men's and Women's Provincials will occur January 6-10 at the Gimli CC and Victoria CC respectively. The Manitoba's Credit Unions Master's Women's Championship will be held in Carman December 10-13 while the Men's Championship will be held in Killarney March 30 - April 2. The Strathcona Senior Men's and CurlManitoba Senior Women's Provincials will be held at the Heather CC February 24-28 and the Mixed Provincials will take place in Swan River March 23-27. The season finishes up with the 8 Ender Under 16 Championships March 30 - April 2 in Winnipeg followed by the Dominion Club Curling Championships at the Elmwood CC April 7-10.       

With the exception of the Mixed and Dominion Club, all Zone and Regional playdowns will now occur before the Christmas break.

This will be the first year for the new format for the Juniors, Master Women's and Senior Women's. Junior Men's and Women's Provincials will remain the same as previous years with 16 teams, 2 pools of 8.

-1 berth from the 2009 8 Ender Christmas Bonspiel has been awarded                                                                  
-zones will be changed to Sport Regions and berths will be awarded as follows: Noman 1 berth, Parkland 1 berth, Westman 2 berth's, Central 2 berth's, Eastman 1 berth, Interlake 1 berth, and Winnipeg 3 berth's                
-2 berth's  will be awarded from the Junior Berth Bonspiel
-2 berth's will be awarded from the 8 Ender Christmas Junior Bonspiel                                                                  

Senior Women's changes to a 12 team provincial with 2 pools of 6. Qualifying:
-zones will be eliminated and replaced with sport regions,
-berths will be assigned as follows, Norman 1 berth, Parkland 1 berth, Westman 1 berth, Central 1 berth, Eastman 1 berth, Interlake 1 berth, and Winnipeg 1 berth
-2 berth's will be awarded to the Region's with the highest participation, maximum one additional berth per region                                                                       
-2 berth's will be awarded through the berth bonspiel  
-1 berth will be awarded to the returning champion     

Masters Women's changes to a single open bonspiel with the winner declared the provincial champion.
