Do you Remember 12-end Games and Live Curling on Radio

Monday Mar 08 2010

(March 22) If you remember 12 end curling games - or if you can't believe we used to play that long a game, you'll enjoy a memory from radio of the 1950's included in this week's RockTalk (now archived in mp3 format - link here). It includes a snippet of a live broadcast of the final rocks of the 1953 Brier, with commentary by Cactus Jack Wells and Ken Watson. An interview with Bob Picken explains the challenges of a radio broadcast of a curling game and the Canadian broadcast legend recalls his own days of curling braodcasts. CurlMantoba Executive Director Shane Ray, in an interview appearance, invites and challenges Manitoba curlers to get involved in setting future direction by joining the Board of Governors.  Former Masters Champion Ray Orr and Manitoba Stick Curling Champion Earl Stephenson talk about their successes with the delivery stick.
