Renwick drops to the 1pm semi-final against Bob Sigurdson (Fort Garry). Sigurdson gave up a three on the opening end to top seed Vic Peters (Granite) and led 9-4 playing the eighth. A Peters deuce followed by a Sigurdson three ended the game with the final score of 12-6.

Sigurdson, Peters SurviveTiebreakers: Bob Sigurdson eliminated defending champion Brent Strachan in a 7-5 game, the second of the two-draw tiebreaker, Sunday evening. Strachan trailed by one playing the ninth but had Sigurdson in serious difficulty. With his last rock the Fort Garry skip played an angle runback into a line of three Strachan rocks lined up on the centre line behind a guard. He ended up laying shot rock buried biting the button with a jam likely if Strachan could get to it. He couldn’t and Sigurdson stole one to lead by two coming home.
Sigurdson now plays Vic Peters in the Page 2-2 playoff game Monday morning at 9am. Jim Renwick meets Rob Ramage in the Page 1-1 playoff. The semi final goes at 1pm and the final at 5pm.

GROUP 2-DRAW 7: No one would have predicted both Brent Strachan (Hamiota) and Bob Sigurdson (Fort Garry) would lose this morning in the Strathcona Senior Men’s championship at the Brandon curling club. That unlikely result has created a four-way tie for second place and a two-draw, four-team tiebreaker later today. Strachan had a draw to the eight foot to beat Gil Van Daele, skipping the Clare DeBlonde team but he slid deep for a 7-5 DeBlonde team win.
Sigurdson missed a double kill with his last rock that would have sent his game to an extra end. That allowed former champion Lionel Walz to draw for a second point and a 7-6 win.
Meanwhile, Keith McLeod (Springfield) beat Brian Darling (The Pas) 7-2 to jump in the playoff as well.
Rob Ramage gets first place in the standings despite a morning 6-5 loss to Bob Bartley (Carman). Bartley finishes at 2-5.

Klassen was laying two buried and could be excused if he figured he had the game won but Westcott’s hit on a rock at the hogline angled slightly onto one of his own rocks. He pushed it through a port in front of the rings and removed the shot stone in the four foot to count one and win 6-5. It was Westcott’s first win of the event.
