Schmirler Tournament Nets $15,000+ for Charity

The winning score in the 3rd Annual Sandra Schmirler Manitoba Golf Classic was 59, shot by (l-r) Alex Mowat, Chris Schmidt, Ed Tipping, and Don Mowat. The champion team and 140 others golfers who played the Larters at St. Andrews course on a sunny July 26 afternoon all agree, however, that the real winners are the children who benefit from the work of the Sandra Schmirler Foundation and the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Tournament Chairman Zivan Saper announced the event’s total contribution to the two charities would be in excess of $15,000, the highest total in the three year history of the Manitoba tournament. The three year total now surpasses $35,000 from Manitoba’s Sandra Schmirler Charity Golf Classic, one of four such tournaments held each summer across Canada.

Contributing to the success of the event were many sponsors and prize contributors, notably the organizing committees for the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier, 2008 World Men’s Championship, 2008 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and 2008 Ford World Women’s Championship all of whom provided event ticket packages as special prizes. A highlight special prize was a photo-poster autographed by Kelly Scott’s world champions. The poster, which was won by Mike Hoes of event sponsor Polywest, was framed by DIY Framing-1110C Pembina Highway and included a full set of 2007 Lethridge Scotties pins.

On behalf of the tournament committee, is pleased to say thank you to Presenting Sponsor Winnipeg Free Press and to all of the tournament sponsors:
