Friday, 27 July 2007 ? Monsanto News Release

One of the most recognized and strongest competitive women’s curling teams in Canada – Team Jennifer Jones of Manitoba – has secured Monsanto Canada as its premier team sponsor for the 2007-08 curling season.

The sponsorship package includes title sponsorship of the team, company logo placement on both on-ice and off-ice team clothing and promotional/public appearances for Monsanto by members of the team.

"We are thrilled the Jones team approached Monsanto about sponsorship and are honoured to be associated with a team recognized across the country for their competitiveness and high performance," said Trish Jordan, Monsanto Canada’s director of public affairs. "Our connection to curling continues to grow because it is a game that is embraced by our farm customers. We look forward to showcasing the Jones rink at employee and customer events over the next year."

The Jones rink – Jennifer Jones (skip); Cathy Overton-Clapham (third); Jill Officer (second); and Dawn Askin (lead) – has extensive experience and has achieved considerable success over the past few years. They have appeared at the Canadian Scottie’s Tournament of Hearts the last three years, finishing in the top three each time and capturing the championship in 2005. The Jones rink has been ranked number one on the World Curling Tour and number one on the Canadian Team Ranking System in the last two years and was also the 2006 and 2007 Women’s Player’s Champion. They have also already qualified for the 2009 pre-Olympic curling trials.

"Playing at an elite level in an increasing number of competitions is an important part of our competitive curling schedule and it certainly comes with costs," said Jones. "Our goal is to continue to be one of the top teams in Canada and win Olympic Gold in Vancouver in 2010. That takes tremendous focus and commitment by each team member, plus support from companies like Monsanto. Their willingness to commit sponsorship dollars to our team, our sport and our community will certainly ease the financial pressure and allow us to focus on curling."

Monsanto Canada’s sponsorship of the Jones rink builds on its support for curling in Canada and follows the signing of a new, long-term sponsorship agreement with the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) announced in May. That agreement will see Monsanto become the Presenting Sponsor of the 2007 and 2008 Continental Cups, the 2009 Tim Hortons Canadian Curling Trials and its pre-Trials qualifier and the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier. The company will also be a Diamond Sponsor for the 2008 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and continues with its Presenting Sponsor role at the Tim Hortons Brier through 2009.
