Provincial Champ Forrest Still Tops Atkins Junior Super League
Friday Jan 22 2010Despite being absent for the Canadian Juniors, Alex Forrest has a perfect 11-0 record and a three win lead in the Atkins Junior Super League after Thursday night's games at Pembina. Sam Good stayed at 8-3 when his game against Breanne Meakin was postponed for the same reason. Daniel Birchard defeated Steen Sigurdson (5-3) to improve to 8-4, tied with Good for second place in the win column. Kate Cameron (7-6 over Shannon Birchard) is at 7-5 and Riley Smith dropped to 6-6 with an 8-6 loss to Matt Dunstone. In the fourth game played this week, Dylan Gousseau was a5-4 winner over Alyssa Vandepoele.

Provincial Champion and league leader Alex Forrest, with a 9-0 record did not play this week. Riley Smith and Kate Cameron both have 6-4 records after a smith 8-6 win over Cameron. Daniel Birchard also moved to 6-4 with a 5-4 win over Alyssa Vandepoele. Provincial Champion Breanne Meakin improved to 3-7 with a 5-3 win over Joel Hildebrand and Matt Dunstone beat Dylan Gousseau 4-2 to even his record at 4-4.

Alex Forrest and his Vantage Builders team have built a 3 game separation from the pack at the top of the Atkins Curling Suppllies Junior Super League. Forrest defeated Kate Cameron (5-4) this week to improve to 9-0 while Cameron dropped back to 6-3, tied with Sam Good who beat Dylan Gousseau (6-1). Daniel Birchard and Riley Smith both moved to 5-4 with wins this week. Riley was a 6-2 winner over Breanne Meakin while Birchard needed an extra end to beat Steen Sigurdson 6-5. In the other game played this week, Joel Hildebrand defeated Shannon Birchard (6-5). The Alyssa Vandepoele-Matt Dunstone game was postponed.

Forrest was a 5-3 winner over Breanne Meakin in the scheduled game Thursday. The Forrest team also defeated Sam Good 6-5 in a previously postponed game. Good's record is 5-3 after he won his scheduled game 7-2 over Matt Dunstone. Cameron still holds second place with a 6-5 win over Daniel Birchard. Other winners this week in Atkins Junior League play included Alyssa Vandepoele (5-2 over Steen Sigurdson), Shannon Birchard (7-5 over Riley Smith), and Dylan Gousseau (7-1 over Joel Hildebrand).
