Birchard, Forrest Top Junior Super Leagues
Monday Mar 29 2010Shannon Birchard and Alex Forrest and their teams have won Winnipeg's two Junior Super Leagues. The Birchard team won a make-up game this week (6-4 over Ashley Jahns) to improve their record to 12-6. The 12-6 record was a first place tie with Alyssa Vandepoele but Birchard was awarded first place in the final standings as a result of having beaten Vandepoele in both round-robin games. Vandepoele had won the week before (9-1 over Mallory Miller) to improve to 12-6 while Birchard lost that game (7-3 to Ashley Resler). With another win (7-2 over Breanne Meakin) on the finalnight, Resler moved into a tie for third at 11-7 with Kate Cameron. As they beat each other in round-robin play, they will have a tiebreak game for third place.

A win by Alex Forrest on the final night of Skins Format copmpetition (9-0 over Riley Smith) and a loss by Sam Good (8-5 to Daniel Birchard) has resulted in a first place finish in the Atkins Junior Super League for Forrest with a 15-3 record while Good finishes 14-4. Daniel Birchard finished in third place in the standings. Vandepoele was fourth at 11-8.

Logjam Developing at the Top of Junior Women's Super League lead - Losses by league leaders Shannon Birchard (8-5 to Erika Sigurdson) and ALyssa Vandepoele (8-6 to Kate Cameron) mean that a 7-4 first-place record in the Victoria Junior Women's Super League is only a win ahead of four teams tied for third place. Cameron's win gave her a 6-5 record along with Ashley Jahns (who defeated Mallory Miller 7-5) and Ashley Resler (who beat Kelsey Boettcher 8-4). Boettcher's record, with the loss to Resler, is also 6-5. Due to Breanne Meakin's participation in the Canadian Juniors, her game this week against Meghan Armit was postponed.

Birchard-Vandepoele Share Junior Women's Super League Lead - After a lay-off for Provincials and the holiday season, The Victoria Junior Women's Super League resumed play Monday evening. The games represents the beginning of the second round of play. A win by Alyssa Vandepoele (5-4 over Breanne Meakin) and a loss by Shannon Birchard (6-1 to Kelsey Boettcher) has resulted in a tie at the top of the league as the second round begins. Vandepoele and Birchard both have records of 7 wins & 3 losses. As a result of the same two games, Boettcher and Meakin share third spot in the standings at 6-4.
Wins by Kate Cameron (7-4 over Mallory Miller) and Ashley Resler (8-4 over Meghan Armit) and a loss by Ashley Jahns (5-4 to Erika Sigurdson) puts Cameron, Resler and Jahns into a three way tie at 5-5.

Armit Defeats Provincial Top Seed Cameron in Jr Women's Super League - Following a weekend trip to the final of the Ste Anne Junior Bonspiel, Meghan Armit and her team defeated the top-seeded team in this week's Provincials, Kate Cameron, in Junior Women's Super League play at the Victoria Curling Club Monday. Both Armit and Camerin now have 4-5 records in league play. Armit is seeded #6 in the provincial draw. The provincial #2, 3,& 4 seeds all won their superleague games. Second seed Brianne Meakin needed an extra end to beat Erika Sigurdson (6-5). Sigurdson is the provincial #8 seed. Third seeded Alyssa Vandepoele was a 6-3 winner over Mallory Miller and fourth seed Shannon Birchard out-scored Ashley Resler (6-1). Resler is the seventh seed at provincials. In the other game this week, Kelsey Boettcher defeated Ashley Jahns (6-0).

Birchard improved to 6-2 this week with a 6-4 win over Alyssa Vandepoele which dropped Vandepoele back to 5-3. Also at 5-3 are Breanne Meakin who beat Kelsey Boettcher 6-0 and Ashley Jahns who lost 6-2 to Kate Cameron. Cameron is at 4-4, tied with Ashley Resler who beat Mallory Miller 7-2. In the other game this week, Erika Sigurdson defeated Meghan Armit 7-4.

(Week 7) Cameron Scores Eight Ender in Jr Women's Super League - The highlight of this week's Junior Women's Super League play at Victoria CC was an eight ender scored by Kate Cameron as she, and her Provincial playoffs bound team, defeated Ashley Resler 13-2. The eight came in the sixth end as Cameron drew for the perfect score to improve her record to 3-4. A win by Ashley Jahns (9-3 over Alyssa Vandepoele) and a loss by Shannon Birchard (6-1 to Breanne Meakin) means there is a three way tie at the top of the league standings as Jahns, Vandepoele and Birchard are all at 5-2. Meakin is right behind at 4-3. Others winners this week were Meghan Armit (7-4 over Kelsey Boettcher) and Mallory Miller (7-1 over Erika Siguurdson).
