Coutts’ Hour of Curling Talk Moves to CKLQ-Brandon: Western Manitoba’s most popular radio station, 880 CKLQ, hosts the only radio broadcast hour of curling talk in the world this season as Resby Coutts returns to his broadcast roots with his long-running program. The program, re-named IN THE HACK with Resby Coutts, began October 4 and airs Thursdays 7-8pm.

The program, which has developed a strong listening audience in both live and on-line webcast versions, will continue to focus on all Manitoba curling but will also contribute to the coverage of western Manitoba’s many major events.

Coutts began his broadcast career at CKLQ and did his first radio curling coverage as a part of the broadcast crew which provided play-by-play coverage of Manitoba’s performance at the 1982 Labatt Brier. That crew comprised former CKLQ staffers Ron Arnst and Les Lazaruk and the late Neil Andrews. Since that beginning, Coutts’ curling radio coverage, along with his former newspaper and his current website www.thecurler.com, has included an estimated 200 events from Manitoba to Canadian and World Championships. For the last several years, Coutts has provided curling coverage and event reporting for CKLQ at the same time as he hosted his show on TSN 1290 in Winnipeg.

Long appreciated by western Manitoba curlers and curling fans for coverage of their favourite sport, CKLQ will continue with full coverage of curling again in the 2012-13 season. In addition to IN THE HACK with Resby Coutts, CKLQ will have Manitoba and Canadian Championship coverage in the lead-up to the Canadian Curling Trials which will be held in Winnipeg in December 2013

FEBRUARY 16, 2011: The Wednesday, February 16 edition of RockTalk is now available in an archived mp3 version. LINK HERE to hear the media scrum with Mike McEwen after losing the Safeway Championship game and the thoughts of all four members of the winning Jeff Stoughton team. CurlManitoba Executive Director Shane Ray joins Host Resby Coutts and Jordan Bauldic to discuss proposed changes to qualifying for Manitoba Women's, Junior and Mixed competition. To review the proposals, LINK HERE (http://www.curlmanitoba.org/qualifying-and-championship-changes ) to the CurlManitoba website. Curler feedback is invited and encouraged.

The conversation about provincial qualifying went sufficiently long that an interview with Hugh McFadyen, which had been included in pre-show promotion, has been held over for inclusion in the Wednesday, February 23 edition of RockTalk.

FEBRUARY 2, 2011: Ron Westcott was Wednesday night's guest on RockTalk. A Manitoba champion in his own right, he is justly proud of his daughter Raunora's accomplishment in winning a second consecutive Manitoba Scotties championship. Hear the thoughts of the new Manitoba champions and the insights of Ron Westcott on our archived mp3 version of RockTalk hosted by Resby Coutts and Jordan Bauldic. In the final segment, we look forward to the Safeway Championship with a little speculation about the seeds. The show includes the answers to a couple of pretty good trivia questions.

1) Leslie Wilson and Raunora Westcott have won back to back Manitoba Scotties titles. How many times has it happened since the first  championship in 1952. How many and who?
2) Steve Gould and Jeff Stoughton, IF THEY WIN IN BEAUSEJOUR, will become only the second and third person to accomplish a Manitoba Men's championship feat which has only been done by one other person? What - and who is the one.

Of course, you can look it up the same place I did OR listen to the show.

JANUARY 26, 2011: RockTalk's annual MCA bonspiel special is a series of 'everyman curler' interviews with the peple I encounter during the MCA annual bonspiel. People I played against like Dave Elias, Phil Spevack, Andrew Swan, and Kevin Grumniski - folks I encounter at the Opening Ceremony like Ernie Rehberg, Jack Jackson and Scott Masloroff - and others like Rob Atkins all have great  MCA Bonspiel memories to share and ideas how we can celebrate the 2013, 125th annual MCA bonspiel in a big way.
